India :Beginnings

The Story Of India

Today I saw this documentary on "The story of India" Part 1 titled as The beginnings. This series is presented by an Englishman named Michael Wood.I don't know when it had been televised but it was very amusing. It was very shameful for me to find out the history of my own country from some foreigner.I am feeling guilty, that's why I decided to share this information with others.

The documentary traces down the history of India & finds out when it became a land inhabited by civilized people. Some 10,000 years ago early people from Africa came along the Arabian sea. These people were the first Indians. In Kerala,Brahmins pass the mantras and incantations from one generation to another. These mantras are of no known language, they can just be recited. In villages around Madurai many people had M130 marker in their DNA which was also present in the oldest human gene available. The ancient Indians had one religion and millions of Gods
In 1920, Indian and British archaeologists found out the remains of well planned cities of Harappa & Mohenjodaro, now in Pakistan which flourished near the river Indus.About 5000 years ago millions of people lived in these cities and the whole empire stretched from Himalayas to the Arabian sea.But due to sudden climatic changes this civilization was destroyed.

Some 3000 years ago, People from Central Asia and Iran came here to India, they  were known as the Aryans. We can trace them back in Rigveda. The city of Varanasi, which is on the plains of Ganges, assumed to be the oldest city inhabited by Aryans, was also the seat of culture & education.Even today the brahmins learn sanskrit & vedas. Sanskrit , Latin & Greek are very similar, but there is a controversy over which is the most ancient. In Rigveda, horses , "Rathas" & "Somarasa- Elixir of Gods" is mentioned. All these things have been found in an excavation in Central Asia and Turkmenistan. This fact strengthens that the Aryans were from Central Asia.

Finally the most intriguing part of the documentary.Famous epic of Indian Mythology "The Mahabharatha", was it for real or just a myth?? The presenter meets a archaeologist who had been to places like Hastinapur, Mathura and found out that there was an ancient civilization there some 2000 years ago.He found out that a part of Hastinapur was destructed due to flood which tallied with the events depicted in the epic. They also found pottery of that period which makes Mahabharatha a real incident.

The author travelled from south India to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia and then back to the northern fertile plains of Ganga.
It made me feel that India and Pakistan were the same some years ago.We share same history, same ancestry but still are fighting just like the Kauravas and the Pandavas
We should stop fighting like children otherwise the results can be disastrous. It is just this simple thing that we have to remember that after all we are brothers.
