Kuch Khaas hai Zindagi mein

Recently I was talking with my dear friend Ketan(Makhau) & we were talking about the fact that I'll be leaving the college.Suddenly we said in unison that our first year in college was the best time in our lives.Things were going fine until makhau said that why are we always missing our past & are not content with our present.

When we came to college we used to say that school time was best.In the final year we miss our first year. When we will start to work, we are gonna miss everything.Even in school we had missed our childhood. But there is a fine balance between remembering your past & wasting your present.

Most of us are in the situation they are because of the decisions they made on their own.I came across a quote last day in a video which said "Why cry for the things which have not happened instead just laugh for things which have happened."

It is very trivial to say but there are people who are in a much atrocious situation than we are in,If they are still surviving & fighting to live on,then why not we.The best way to enjoy life is to live in the present.Life is what you make of it.Consider each moment as precious & try to make every one of them unforgettable.

Live as if you will die tomorrow.

Ten Things I love about Kgp

I got frustrated by junta not commenting anything. So I am going ahead & writing my own list.
First let me tell you Kgp is the best thing that has happened to me so far in my life. These four years opened to me new avenues & facets of life. Please bear with me if the post is too lengthy.

1) First & foremost is the awesome weather: Bit of a contrast, windy nights & hot, humid days. But the feeling of the wind is like God is blessing you.You cannot see it but you can feel it.I enjoyed drenching in rains along with friends.

2)The friends & bhaat sessions : In a group we always target someone & start ridiculing him till the point he begins to cry( I am one of the soft targets as I don't mind it.) We can still have chat sessions but the look on the person's face is priceless & we're gonna miss it.

3)Running 2.2's : Nobody else in the world u run in multiples of 2.2's.This truly is an asset to all KGPians.Something which seems so trivial to a KGPian is so tough for others to understand.

4)Nightouts & having an early breakfast & chai @ cheddis : Being at Kgp to it is a challenge to wake up early, so junta prefers nightouts. Some evne sleep after having going to cheddis. You can either watch movies with friends & have bhaat & booze sessions to cope up with sleep.

5) Proxies in classes : To attend classes & be attentive is one of the toughest things that I have managed to do.(Only in boring courses though).I have written many proxies & even called @ some Friend'sroll call which the teacher could not find out.Haven't been caught so it has been a good experience to see classmates looking furiously at you.I can only say that my friends did not get the chance to reciprocate that much.I am too regular in classes.

6) The Tempo shout :Actually it is the ritual after every colective effort the hall makes.Be it a win( or even loss) in Inter hall event, a good performance at the elections or just for fun. These tempo shouts radiate the sheer amount of energy we have & the enormity of a team's effort. The formation, the sequence of claps & the rhythm all is designed like a orchestra playing a symphony.Sure I am gonna miss it.

7)Lan Games : I have not been a very good player myself of Counter strike, FIFA or AOE. But I am an avid spectator.I was lucky indeed to have Navjot aka PAUL da as my wing mate.He is one of the most dedicated & skilled gamers I have seen.To watch him play Counter Strike along with JP & Jeta was a treat.I even went to their clan meetings after tha match & gave suggestion.(Most of them stupid.) I played FIFA but never won a single match against a good player.Had beaten Paul though in FIFA. :)

8)Birthday Bums(GPL) : If you get a very good GPL then you would curse the day when you were born.In KGP beating people on their birthday is a way to vent out their frustration. There are notices kept up to invite random people on your GPL ceremony. You are fortunate if you are not in KGP on your birthday. However you can get them on special occasions like getting a good CG, good internship or having a girlfriend. :P

9) Swimming & Water Polo :After all the day's hard work it gives me immense pleasure to just dip in water & relax. All the stress just drowns along with the water.I can still continue swimming elsewhere but I am definitely gonna miss. water polo. The driling for inter hall preparation & the closely contested matches were a treat to watch.

10) Wing Cricket :I just love playing along with the wing members & the brawls about the ambigous rules.Sometimes it becomes a matter of prestige to win a match. But all in all this setting was the best to enjoy the most famous game of our country.

There are many others but cannot splurt out those.( We should have our secrets.)

I will try to do as many of them as possible when I come back to Kgp.

The Kgp Bucket list

As most of you will be aware, I am in my final year( final month actually) of my illustrious Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.( How narcissistic I am!) & most of the readers of this blog have also gone through this situation. The last month is the most important month in terms of your academic performance.( Damn it!!) but it is also the most nostalgic one{ just one month left :( } So all of you must have grasped my dilemma.

As I was walking in the garden enjoying the evening breeze & listening to auditorium quality music ( thanks to Modi's Music player) , I realized that I will not e able to do the same thing after one month.Hence I decided to make a list of all the things that I will miss the most about Kharagpur & in this month I'll do all of them each day.So roughly I will have to find the top 30 things about Kharagpur( The Extended Bucket list).I think it is the best way to spend my last few days @ my coveted Alma mater.I will take away these memories, not to mention lifelong friends, mentors & teachers.Though I do not want to bid an adieu to this place a part of me will always remain here.

All KGPians are welcomed to share their bucket lists( or at least some part of it)

P.S. The Bucket list was a movie in which the protagonist, suffering from an incurable disease makes a list of 10 things which he wants to do before dying. Dasvidaniya was the hindi version. Both were awesome.Do watch them to get inspired for doing such a silly yet the most important thing in life.Kya pata Kal ho na ho.

Video campaining

This time the elections have raised to new technical heights. The national election commission has come up with videos and commercials which urge people to vote.In these videos Aamir Khan, the renowned actor compares the process of election of the candidate to the selection of a spouse for your daughter. It strikes a chord with all the generations, as finding the perfect groom for their daughter is the parent's ultimate dream. You can find the first video here

In another video firstly a woman is shown buying tomatoes from a street hawker. She chooses the best available & refuses to take even one rotten tomato.(Why should she? :P)Then Aamir comes & says that even half of this attention is given to know how of the candidates & election process, then we can have a better government.Watch this video here

The last one is different & starts with a question that how much price will one quote for the future of his/her child? Then Aamir says that if some politician pays you an incentive for voting then think of him as a person who can sell you tomorrow & will thus make policies which will destroy your child's future. He warns us not to take anything from such politicians & do not vote in favour of them. This is the link to the video

This campaign is one of the good initiatives that Indian media has taken. The Association for Democratic Reforms has started a fresh & novel way to make the voters aware of the politicians in their constituency. We can find about the candidates in our constituency by either calling the toll free number 1800110440 or by sending a SMS to 56070 by typing MYNETA followed by a space followed by the pincode of your area.

Apart from that everybody knows about the Congress' "Jai ho" & BJP's answer to that which is "Bhay ho"

Google Whack

I watched this documentary a long time back, but it is about one of the most time consuming games I have ever played. If you love googling & words then this is the game for you.As Dave Gorman succinctly describes in the documentary a Googlewhack is the unique single hit which you get after putting two distinct existing words in Google's search engine. In short it is : 2 words 1 hit. There are some rules for Googlewhacking :

1) No punctuations should be used.
2)The words should be existing i.e present on Dictionary
3)The single hit should not be a word list or dictionary.

If you cannot grasp the idea of the game then please comment.I will try to clear your doubts.

Dave got an E-mail from a stranger that he was a Googlewhack( His web page contained two distinct existing words.).So he also started playing the game himself & found out other Googlewhacks. He personally met with them, went to their places & urged them that they should continue the chain until he finds 10 Googlewhacks. In his journey he goes to various countries & also gets stuck up for a long period of time in his search. But finally he makes it to 10.He uses various techniques to find words which are sufficiently unfamiliar. He used crosswords to find them & was successful many times.(I couldn't find one myself so can't put up an example.)

He told about various incidents that happen during his journey. He also wrote a book on this topic & gives great shows. You can watch one small part of the documentary here
