Convo,Suicides & the art of being happy

I went to my Alma-mater last weekend for receiving the coveted B.Tech(Hons.) degree, for which I slogged out during the 4 precious years of my life in a small suburb called Kharagpur, which is 120 kms & approximately 3 hours from Kolkata(which is the worst metro :P ).That brief moment reminded me of the movie "Lakshya", where the soldiers take a 'antim pag" or final step.My greatest asset was not the degree but the friendships that gathered along the way.

Now come to a topic slightly off track, about the recent suicides in Kharagpur.Among them was one first year student, who committed this unholy act on the very first day he arrived in the campus.

When Pandit Nehru had inaugurated this premier institute of technology, which was located at the same place as English detention camps, he wouldn't have even thought that it would become a jail for some of its students & they will get so frustrated so as to commit suicide.

From my personal experience , i didn't expected much glamour in IITKGP or for that matter in any IIT.I thought of them as a place to study along with the sharpest minds of the country.

But in IITKGP we were not even given basic amenities. We were those unfortunate set of students who were not given a LAN connection during their first year.We lived in a hostel which looked very great from outside but didn't even had a mess of its own.Passing through these tough times made us so resistant to problems that eating "good food" & LAN connection became life's luxuries for us.

On top of that the girl boy ratio had reached a new low during our batch. To survive four years in a place where you can't even see a good looking girl, cannot eat good food & be satisfied with your life, that is precisely what IITKGP has taught me.

If most of us can endure all these pains & get through them to receive the degree from the director himself , then why can't others bear the brunt of life & pass its tests. Why surrendering your life has become so easy??

Bad times will come & pass by.You can always go on in a hope to see better future. But if you are determined & are going to take this irritating step, then think about your family first, what will happen to them??

Coorg Trip Day 1

I went to Coorg 2 weeks ago.The trip was organized by Bangalore Mountaineering club. After boarding the bus, I just awaited for the 8 hour long drive to end so that we can reach to the scenic hill station which is also known as the Scotland of India. After a few halts( one of them @ CCD) we reached there.Rain Gods greeted us with light drizzle. The view of the mountains from our guest house was breathtaking. After a cup of coffee, we headed towards our rooms & changed into our trekking clothes. We had one of the Coorg delicacies in breakfast, which seemed to be steamed rice rolled into balls to be served hot with sambhar.

The Trek
Before starting the Brahmgiri mountain trek, we had a brief intearction with the whole group, where each one of us had to describe ourselves in one word & one quality which supports the adjective chosen.Meanwhile we were told by our guide Nanjappa that leaches will truoble us during the trek, so the trekkers who were wearing sandals had to apply a protective lotion. As soon as the trek started so did the rain.It was really awesome & it reminded me of the Thakshang trek in Bhutan. The trek had three stages. The path that we were following was made by rain water. It was just as if we were on a hunting trail, following the footmarks of some wild animal. We even found some footmarks. But the most prevalent animal which interacted with us was the Leach. Then began a counting procedure called Leecheck & there was one undisputed winner at the end. After the first stage the whole group was relieved that there will be no more leaches to bother us.We had a photograph session.

But bigger heights awaited us.So we trekked along braving, the rains & winds coming our way. After trekking for almost an hour we reached the second stage. The sight was splendid, we can see the peak in front of us, covered with fog.It was surreal. We were so close to our destination, the peak which was 5200 ft above sea level. It was downhill from here & the uphill again. But as fate would have it, right at the moment we thought to go forward, torrential rains poured in.We just faced them staright at our face as even the umbrella could not be held steadily due to the strong wind.Somehow our luch packs were prevented from being wet.As soon as the rain stopped, two of us made a move.Unfortunately some of the group members decided not to go any further.

Thus the third stage started, this time we were climbing on a wet soil & the grip was getting weaker. The shoes were getting waterlogged. It was crazy.Just one sight towards the ground below you got an idea that how high you are.One wrong step & it could have been the end.But the adventurers in us just put those fears aside & managed to reach the coveted Brahmgiri peak. The kodak moments followed. We were giving different poses.Although it was raining, the camera was still on.

We even didn't realize how drenched we were. But our guide got serious now & said the journey so far was the easy one.Now came the tough part.Going downhill. When you are climbing up, you are more aware & slightly more in control. But controlling your speed during coming down is an ordeal in itself, that too on a wet soil just adds to the difficulty. It seemed unreal as to how we had climbed through such thin pathways.Just one slip & I could have been tossed into the valley.I slipped twice but managed to hang on somehow. We reached to the second stage where most of our friends were. After that we opened our lunch packs & finished eating the now frozen pulao & something which tasted like raita.

The same route followed for the downhill journey. The leaches once again started crawling on our shoes & sucked our blood. But the journey not ended smoothly. There were few complications as the permission to trek was not sought from the Forest department which made us infiltrators.Somehow the matter was resolved & we managed to get back to our guest house.

In the evening we went to Irpu falls.I used the power of the falls to massage my back.It was situated at some height & it took 1.75 kms of trek to reach to the falls too.Not only the power of the falls but the scenery around it was marvellous. Here is one video.

This was the first day in Coorg. The day did not ended after this also.We were lost in the paddy fields as well, but that story in the next post.

"BIG"

Most of you must have seen this Tom Hanks' flick "Big" where he wishes to become older in order to impress girls.Coming to more common life instances , any action/adventure flick is always preferred being watched on big screen. There is a constant quest to increase the height of television sets.So why do we love "Big"??
This question came to my mind while I was checking out the Apple Imagine store. My gaze was fixedon the magnificent 29 inch LCD screen. Why do we fascinate "Big". Why do marketing promotions introduce tag lines like "Bada hai to behtar hai".
I think the answer may be that if we see more then we can imagine more, just like if an artist is given a bigger canvas he/she can paint a bigger & better picture. It is not always true, but this is as close as i can get to the root of this inbound human trait.
Another measure of grandness is bigger capacity, be it a car or a hard drive, the bigger the merrier.Even certain special body parts should be greta in size for being attractive.
But certain things are preferred in mini sizes only.Be it girl's dresses or exam papers. So just analyze why we have this habit & you will come to know a lot of things about yourself, as I realized some of mine.

25th May 2009

I have put this date as the title of my blog, not because it is the birthday of any of my relatives or friends but that day both expected & unexpected events took me by surprise. We had just returned from a holy trip from Haridwar with family.Everybody was tired because of the sleepless night in the car,yet we remained awake all day. That day JEE result was going to be announced & two of my brothers were waiting for their results.

Initially the server was not allowing us to go to the results page & then it started showing various types of errors.I suggested to dial the numbers of the various IIT's as I had done during my result day.But only 15,000 students were requesting results then, not the massive 4 lakh which were eager to watch how they had fared in this prestigiuos exam.

Finally my brother in law gave us the good news that both of my brothers have qualified. One had an AIR 30 & the other had AIR 3738.

I had also qaulified the same exam, so i knew the worth of being selected. The media frenzy occupied our house just after few hours. There were press people who wanted to interview my family & brothers. However my brother was a bit dissappointed to have secured a rank higher than the Top 10(Damn fool)...The other one was genuinely sad( I understand bro!!)But being in IIT is a good thing in itself..Ranks & departments don't matter a lot. That's what I have learned , the Brand IIT is the most important.

I also was interviewed for a job & was accepted so it was like a good day for me too(But had to join too early.) The excitement of that day still makes me very cheerful. My parents were very proud of my younger brother & I was happy that the hard work he did had paid off..My brothers also dedicated a part of their success to me.(They don't know me that well.)

Kaash somebody would have been there to help me out too.I was the guinea pig of my family. However others benefitted from the fallacies i committed. In the end the result was a satisfactory one for me too.

P.S. I knew many of my IITan colleagues whose brothers gave the exam this year & invariably the younger brother had secured a higher rank than his senior sibling. This shows that bhai sher to chhota bhai sawa sher.

15 Minutes to Salvation

This is an ode to my guide, my mentor & the person responsible for completing my Project & Engineering degree.I was lucky to have such a great Project supervisor.I am grateful to you sir. This one is for you.It is actually a very inspirational poem.

Pandrah minute
Pandrah minute hai tumhaare paas
shaayad tumhaare zindagi ke sabse khaas pandrah minute
aaj tum achcha present karo ya bura
yeh pandrah minute tumhe zindagi bhar yaad rahenge
toh kaise bolna hai aaj main tumhe nahi bataayunga
lekin yeh pandrah minute, tumse koi nahi chhin sakata, koi nahin
toh maine socha ki iss BTP mein kaise bolna hai
aaj main tumhein nahi bataayunga bal ki tum mujhe bataoge, present karke
kyun ki main jaanata hoon ki agar yeh pandrah minute
tum apani zindagi ke sabse jyada funde pel gaye
toh yeh pandrah minute Civil Engineering Department bhi tumse waapas nahin maang sakata
toh jaao, jaao aur apane aap se, iss zindagi se, apane khuda se
aur har uss insaan se jisne tumhe, tum par bharosa nahi kiya
apane pandrah minute chhin lo.

P.S.
1)This poem is written on a serious note. Strict action will be taken against those who try to mock it.
2)I have written it before writing my Presentation. Expecting an Ex in the last exam @ IITKGP.
3) Special thanks to Denzel Washignton, Shahrukh Khan & makers of "REMEMBER THE TITANS"
4) BTP: B.Tech Presentation & Ex: Excellent

4 years of my life

I have experienced a whole new dimension of myself & life in general in 4 years of IIT life.To leave this place is a dilemma because these were the 4 best years of my life.I had my share of laughter, fun & disappointments.I made some of my best friends here only.A whole bunch of people who can do anything for me.The following poem is not exactly mine, but it expresses the feelings through which I am going.

Raah dekhi thi is din ki kabse,
Aage ke sapne saja rakhe the naajane kab se.
Bade utavle the yahaan se jaane ko ,
Zindagi ka agla padaav paane ko .
Par naa jane kyon ..Dil mein aaj kuch aur aata hai, Waqt ko rokne ka jee chahta hai.
Jin baton ko lekar rote the Aaj un par hansi aati hai, Na jaane kyon aaj un palon ki yaad bahut aati hai .
Kaha karte the ..Badi mushkil se char saal seh gaya, Par aaj kyon lagta hai ki kuch peeche reh gaya.
Na bhoolne wali kuch yaadein reh gayi,
Yaadien jo ab jeene ka sahara ban gayi.
Kaun raat bhar saath jag kar padega ,
Kaun mere naye naye naam banayega.
Mein ab bina matlab kis se ladoonga,
Bina topic ke kisse faalto baat karoonga ,
canteen me chaay kis ke saath piyoonga , Wo haseen pal ab kis ke saath jiyoonga,
Aise dost kahaan milenge Jo khai mein bhi dhakka de aayein, Par fir tumhein bachane khud bhi kood jayein.
Kaun mujhe mere kabiliyat par bharosa dilayega, Aur jyada hawa mein udne par zameen pe layege ,
Meri khushi mein sach mein khush kaun hoga , Mere gam mein mujhse jyada dukhi honge.
Yaaro aaj jana to mujhe padega, par dil ko ye sukoon hai ki mera ek hissa hamesha yahi rahega.

Kuch Khaas hai Zindagi mein

Recently I was talking with my dear friend Ketan(Makhau) & we were talking about the fact that I'll be leaving the college.Suddenly we said in unison that our first year in college was the best time in our lives.Things were going fine until makhau said that why are we always missing our past & are not content with our present.

When we came to college we used to say that school time was best.In the final year we miss our first year. When we will start to work, we are gonna miss everything.Even in school we had missed our childhood. But there is a fine balance between remembering your past & wasting your present.

Most of us are in the situation they are because of the decisions they made on their own.I came across a quote last day in a video which said "Why cry for the things which have not happened instead just laugh for things which have happened."

It is very trivial to say but there are people who are in a much atrocious situation than we are in,If they are still surviving & fighting to live on,then why not we.The best way to enjoy life is to live in the present.Life is what you make of it.Consider each moment as precious & try to make every one of them unforgettable.

Live as if you will die tomorrow.

Ten Things I love about Kgp

I got frustrated by junta not commenting anything. So I am going ahead & writing my own list.
First let me tell you Kgp is the best thing that has happened to me so far in my life. These four years opened to me new avenues & facets of life. Please bear with me if the post is too lengthy.

1) First & foremost is the awesome weather: Bit of a contrast, windy nights & hot, humid days. But the feeling of the wind is like God is blessing you.You cannot see it but you can feel it.I enjoyed drenching in rains along with friends.

2)The friends & bhaat sessions : In a group we always target someone & start ridiculing him till the point he begins to cry( I am one of the soft targets as I don't mind it.) We can still have chat sessions but the look on the person's face is priceless & we're gonna miss it.

3)Running 2.2's : Nobody else in the world u run in multiples of 2.2's.This truly is an asset to all KGPians.Something which seems so trivial to a KGPian is so tough for others to understand.

4)Nightouts & having an early breakfast & chai @ cheddis : Being at Kgp to it is a challenge to wake up early, so junta prefers nightouts. Some evne sleep after having going to cheddis. You can either watch movies with friends & have bhaat & booze sessions to cope up with sleep.

5) Proxies in classes : To attend classes & be attentive is one of the toughest things that I have managed to do.(Only in boring courses though).I have written many proxies & even called @ some Friend'sroll call which the teacher could not find out.Haven't been caught so it has been a good experience to see classmates looking furiously at you.I can only say that my friends did not get the chance to reciprocate that much.I am too regular in classes.

6) The Tempo shout :Actually it is the ritual after every colective effort the hall makes.Be it a win( or even loss) in Inter hall event, a good performance at the elections or just for fun. These tempo shouts radiate the sheer amount of energy we have & the enormity of a team's effort. The formation, the sequence of claps & the rhythm all is designed like a orchestra playing a symphony.Sure I am gonna miss it.

7)Lan Games : I have not been a very good player myself of Counter strike, FIFA or AOE. But I am an avid spectator.I was lucky indeed to have Navjot aka PAUL da as my wing mate.He is one of the most dedicated & skilled gamers I have seen.To watch him play Counter Strike along with JP & Jeta was a treat.I even went to their clan meetings after tha match & gave suggestion.(Most of them stupid.) I played FIFA but never won a single match against a good player.Had beaten Paul though in FIFA. :)

8)Birthday Bums(GPL) : If you get a very good GPL then you would curse the day when you were born.In KGP beating people on their birthday is a way to vent out their frustration. There are notices kept up to invite random people on your GPL ceremony. You are fortunate if you are not in KGP on your birthday. However you can get them on special occasions like getting a good CG, good internship or having a girlfriend. :P

9) Swimming & Water Polo :After all the day's hard work it gives me immense pleasure to just dip in water & relax. All the stress just drowns along with the water.I can still continue swimming elsewhere but I am definitely gonna miss. water polo. The driling for inter hall preparation & the closely contested matches were a treat to watch.

10) Wing Cricket :I just love playing along with the wing members & the brawls about the ambigous rules.Sometimes it becomes a matter of prestige to win a match. But all in all this setting was the best to enjoy the most famous game of our country.

There are many others but cannot splurt out those.( We should have our secrets.)

I will try to do as many of them as possible when I come back to Kgp.

The Kgp Bucket list

As most of you will be aware, I am in my final year( final month actually) of my illustrious Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.( How narcissistic I am!) & most of the readers of this blog have also gone through this situation. The last month is the most important month in terms of your academic performance.( Damn it!!) but it is also the most nostalgic one{ just one month left :( } So all of you must have grasped my dilemma.

As I was walking in the garden enjoying the evening breeze & listening to auditorium quality music ( thanks to Modi's Music player) , I realized that I will not e able to do the same thing after one month.Hence I decided to make a list of all the things that I will miss the most about Kharagpur & in this month I'll do all of them each day.So roughly I will have to find the top 30 things about Kharagpur( The Extended Bucket list).I think it is the best way to spend my last few days @ my coveted Alma mater.I will take away these memories, not to mention lifelong friends, mentors & teachers.Though I do not want to bid an adieu to this place a part of me will always remain here.

All KGPians are welcomed to share their bucket lists( or at least some part of it)

P.S. The Bucket list was a movie in which the protagonist, suffering from an incurable disease makes a list of 10 things which he wants to do before dying. Dasvidaniya was the hindi version. Both were awesome.Do watch them to get inspired for doing such a silly yet the most important thing in life.Kya pata Kal ho na ho.

Video campaining

This time the elections have raised to new technical heights. The national election commission has come up with videos and commercials which urge people to vote.In these videos Aamir Khan, the renowned actor compares the process of election of the candidate to the selection of a spouse for your daughter. It strikes a chord with all the generations, as finding the perfect groom for their daughter is the parent's ultimate dream. You can find the first video here

In another video firstly a woman is shown buying tomatoes from a street hawker. She chooses the best available & refuses to take even one rotten tomato.(Why should she? :P)Then Aamir comes & says that even half of this attention is given to know how of the candidates & election process, then we can have a better government.Watch this video here

The last one is different & starts with a question that how much price will one quote for the future of his/her child? Then Aamir says that if some politician pays you an incentive for voting then think of him as a person who can sell you tomorrow & will thus make policies which will destroy your child's future. He warns us not to take anything from such politicians & do not vote in favour of them. This is the link to the video

This campaign is one of the good initiatives that Indian media has taken. The Association for Democratic Reforms has started a fresh & novel way to make the voters aware of the politicians in their constituency. We can find about the candidates in our constituency by either calling the toll free number 1800110440 or by sending a SMS to 56070 by typing MYNETA followed by a space followed by the pincode of your area.

Apart from that everybody knows about the Congress' "Jai ho" & BJP's answer to that which is "Bhay ho"

Google Whack

I watched this documentary a long time back, but it is about one of the most time consuming games I have ever played. If you love googling & words then this is the game for you.As Dave Gorman succinctly describes in the documentary a Googlewhack is the unique single hit which you get after putting two distinct existing words in Google's search engine. In short it is : 2 words 1 hit. There are some rules for Googlewhacking :

1) No punctuations should be used.
2)The words should be existing i.e present on Dictionary
3)The single hit should not be a word list or dictionary.

If you cannot grasp the idea of the game then please comment.I will try to clear your doubts.

Dave got an E-mail from a stranger that he was a Googlewhack( His web page contained two distinct existing words.).So he also started playing the game himself & found out other Googlewhacks. He personally met with them, went to their places & urged them that they should continue the chain until he finds 10 Googlewhacks. In his journey he goes to various countries & also gets stuck up for a long period of time in his search. But finally he makes it to 10.He uses various techniques to find words which are sufficiently unfamiliar. He used crosswords to find them & was successful many times.(I couldn't find one myself so can't put up an example.)

He told about various incidents that happen during his journey. He also wrote a book on this topic & gives great shows. You can watch one small part of the documentary here

Teri Meharbaaniya (Your Graces)

http://www.forwardon.com/view.php?e=Id11f420d9c75cf8e8&type=featured&time=all

For understanding this blog You must have to watch this video.( watch it anyways.).This video reminded me of the movie "Teri Meharbaaniya".

A dog is a very wonderful creature. However the word "Dog" is commonly used in a abusive manner, but people actually like a Dog.( Remember the GILC episode when Raju Shrivastava made fun of dogs.).They are faithful & can detect your mood. You can always rely on them that they will not leave you.(I am assuming you don't like roadside dogs.) On the other hand the word "Dog" has two completely different annotations. One is the dirty roadside filthy one.The other is the faithful one mentioned above.I had an experience where a group of 10 people were seriously scared by the barking of a single dog.But as the saying goes "Those dogs who bark, don't bite." So we were lucky enough not to be their victims.Everybody knows about the 14 injection thing after a dog bite & the disease which they cause is called "Rabies".

But here we are talking about this wonderful dog who saved his fellow dog's life, who was hit by a car on the highway.( which happens frequently in India.). He is street smart.( Most of them are, not sure about humans though.).He risks his own life, but knows how to tackle the problem of handling the traffic & dragging his buddy's body from the middle of the busy highway. He's kind yet ingenious. In these times when we have to run campaigns to show mercy to people who are met with road accidents,& to take them to hospitals because most onlookers do not assist the victims, seeing a dog performing such a courageous feat touches the heart.I seriously think where is our humanity. We are not even entitled to call ourselves dogs.I think may be these little creatures abuse each other by calling them as "Human".We have degraded to such a level that this use seems apt.

P.S. : On a light note "Aakhir ek kutta hi kutte ki jaan bacha sakta hai." & "Basanti is kutte ke saamne jaroor naachna." & "Teri Meharbaaniya" was a hindi movie in which the protagonist was a Dog who took revenge for the death of his master.

Catalysts of Change

Two posts in a day.Phewww.Actually this post's credit goes to Saurabh bhatia, my co-yatri from TATA JAGRITI YATRA.One of the questions that was raised during the yatra was why Indian businessmen don't enter politics as many US magnates have done it successfully.( Remember Rudy Guilani & Michael Bloomberg). So what we need are the catalysts of change.Don't expect Rahul & Varun Gandhi to be them, they are good for nothing.(May be I am harsh with Rahul). In Andhra Chiranjeevi is already making waves with his new party "Praja Rajyam".Here are the real heroes:

Capt Gopinath the Founder of Airdeccan , a War Veteran is standing for elections from Bangalore this time. This is his official Site: http://votecaptaingopi.com/
Arun Bhatia, an ex IAS officer, is standing in Pune, he is known for maximum number of transfers and his fight against corruption. His site is http://www.arunbhatiaelect.com/

In Hyderabad there is an emergance of a New Party called Loksatta http://www.loksatta.org/

Meera Sanyal, Head of ABN AMRO is standing from South Mumbai as an independent candidate http://www.vccircle.com/500/news/from-banker-to-politico-rbs-meera-sanyal-to-contest-from-mumbai

Probably they can be the catalysts of change.Lets hope for the best.

POLITICS

As I am writing this blog, I found myself full of spirits (yeah you guessed it right). Now starting with the real motive behind writing this post. Politics aka "Poltu" is one of the most important aspect of life @ IIT Kharagpur. But many of us fail to understand that it is an integral part of our lives.
India is a country of leaders. We had great leaders but as our population is increasing the number of followers are increasing at a much faster pace. The flaw is in our mindset & it is that even after being a democracy we are being ruled by our ministers & government. The common man fails to realize that these leaders are one of them having some special abilities but by no means are they Gods.WE are the one who have send them to the helm & if they forget us then they will come down instantly. But Indians had a very large history of being ruled so that mentality is not fading away so easily. The present Generation is the one who have enjoyed freedom, so it is expected that they can bring about the change that is required to revive Indian politics. Personally I have joined many forums for barring criminals to contest in the elections this time, but I guess it will not produce any good result. There are many young & enthusiastic first time voters who are going to election office for making voter id cards.Even the political parties have taken heed of them & are doing expensive campaigning on the net.All of you must know about www.lkadvani.in

The only thing that needs to be transformed in Indian politics is the involvement of the masses.Until the youth shows interest in politics there can be no transformation.I personally feel cheated by the coalition type of "dalbadlu" politics. Most of the politicians are corrupt & have no ideals. They readily change their party from one to another in no time. The election commission needs to make stringent rules so that these type of activities stop at once.I also got one interesting link www.mitsog.com

This is an school for budding politicians :) Now we can have trained politicians for a change. Those who do IAS just for entering politics should seriously consider this option.Instilling the politics with youthful & creative leaders is the need of the hour.Join the politics.Be the change you want to se in the world.

Whenever elections come the present ruling party comes with a new jingle last time it was BJP's "India shining" & this time it is Congress' "Jai Ho".So gear up for watching the "exit polls" & news channels' 24 hour coverage.Don't blame the existing situation, just "Shut up & vote". Choose the best from the worst.Know about the candidates of your constituency. There is a website in which life history of all the Karnataka politicians are given. Here is it praja.in
Googling is much easier. We have the power as it was evident in this year's New Delhi's elections where people voted congress for developing the state.

India :Beginnings

The Story Of India

Today I saw this documentary on "The story of India" Part 1 titled as The beginnings. This series is presented by an Englishman named Michael Wood.I don't know when it had been televised but it was very amusing. It was very shameful for me to find out the history of my own country from some foreigner.I am feeling guilty, that's why I decided to share this information with others.

The documentary traces down the history of India & finds out when it became a land inhabited by civilized people. Some 10,000 years ago early people from Africa came along the Arabian sea. These people were the first Indians. In Kerala,Brahmins pass the mantras and incantations from one generation to another. These mantras are of no known language, they can just be recited. In villages around Madurai many people had M130 marker in their DNA which was also present in the oldest human gene available. The ancient Indians had one religion and millions of Gods
In 1920, Indian and British archaeologists found out the remains of well planned cities of Harappa & Mohenjodaro, now in Pakistan which flourished near the river Indus.About 5000 years ago millions of people lived in these cities and the whole empire stretched from Himalayas to the Arabian sea.But due to sudden climatic changes this civilization was destroyed.

Some 3000 years ago, People from Central Asia and Iran came here to India, they  were known as the Aryans. We can trace them back in Rigveda. The city of Varanasi, which is on the plains of Ganges, assumed to be the oldest city inhabited by Aryans, was also the seat of culture & education.Even today the brahmins learn sanskrit & vedas. Sanskrit , Latin & Greek are very similar, but there is a controversy over which is the most ancient. In Rigveda, horses , "Rathas" & "Somarasa- Elixir of Gods" is mentioned. All these things have been found in an excavation in Central Asia and Turkmenistan. This fact strengthens that the Aryans were from Central Asia.

Finally the most intriguing part of the documentary.Famous epic of Indian Mythology "The Mahabharatha", was it for real or just a myth?? The presenter meets a archaeologist who had been to places like Hastinapur, Mathura and found out that there was an ancient civilization there some 2000 years ago.He found out that a part of Hastinapur was destructed due to flood which tallied with the events depicted in the epic. They also found pottery of that period which makes Mahabharatha a real incident.

The author travelled from south India to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Central Asia and then back to the northern fertile plains of Ganga.
It made me feel that India and Pakistan were the same some years ago.We share same history, same ancestry but still are fighting just like the Kauravas and the Pandavas
We should stop fighting like children otherwise the results can be disastrous. It is just this simple thing that we have to remember that after all we are brothers.
